Garnet
As filtration technology advanced, it evolved from single-layer filtration using sand to dual-layer filtration incorporating anthracite. We now introduce triple-layer filtration using garnet as a more advanced method, effective for countermeasures against Cryptosporidium and as pretreatment for pure water production.
Garnet is a reddish-brown silicate mineral with a high density of approximately 4 g/cm³. It is used in finer particle sizes than filter sand, where it demonstrates its effectiveness.

Tips
Regarding Garnet Support Materials
Due to garnet’s high density, using the same support material as filter sand or anthracite (e.g., filter gravel grades 4-7) will result in a mixed bed state where the filter gravel _and garnet intermingle. This raises concerns that it may cause raw water bypass or unevenness in the support bed, making it difficult to achieve the expected filtration performance.
When using garnet as a filter medium, we strongly recommend using high-density [support garnet] as the direct
underlying support bed, followed by filter gravel beneath it.
