The presence of an oxidizing agent such as sodium hypochlorite in water acts as a catalyst to generate O-radicals with strong oxidizing power, which cleaves the bonds of chromophores and axochromes in humic substances. The chromaticity is reduced.

Humic Substance Color

This refers to the collective term for dark brown organic matter in soil, believed to originate from the microbial decomposition of ancient plant matter.
As a forested nation, Japan has confirmed significant amounts throughout its regions.
It is difficult to remove through conventional water purification processes, and requires extremely strong oxidizing power for its oxidative decomposition.

The color standard set by Japan’s tap water quality standards is 5 degrees or less.
Humic color is observed nationwide, but we recommend using Radicalite UC3 for source water with color levels exceeding 8 degrees,particularly common in the Kanto, Tohoku, and Hokkaido regions, _or when water quality fluctuations are a concern.For applications aiming to remove a small amount of raw water color (e.g., reducing it by 2 to 3 degrees), please use Radicalite SC3. We recommend conducting demonstration tests to select the appropriate filter media and confirm removal capacity. For consultations regarding selection, please contact our company.
